School’s Out For Summer…

School’s Out For Summer… by Jessie Jones

…And parents everywhere are searching for ways to keep the brood occupied over the coming weeks. It’s no easy task keeping kids busy for the summer holiday, so here at findmeagift.com we’ve come up with some ideas for keeping your little angels from turning into little devils over the summer hols!

Let the Games begin
There’s nothing like a good old fashioned game to keep your kids out of trouble. Why not get them outside in the garden for a game of football? And you can make the beautiful game even more fun with Funkix Digi Football Bean Bag - it counts your kicks! Or if it’s a rainy day, sit them down with that classic gadget, the Rubik’s Cube – it’s one way to keep them busy for hours on end. Carrying on with the retro theme, you could always invest in a Giant 4 In A Row Garden Game, which provides a great way for the kids to play together. It’s pretty impressive to look at too, so would make a really good birthday gift – if you can afford that much wrapping paper!

Cooking and Crafty Activities
The summer hols are a great time to get creative with your kids. Drawing and painting is always fun so the Paint Your Own Mug kit provides an interesting change from painting on card or paper – plus the finished mug will be a keepsake that you’ll treasure as your child grows up. Alternatively, painted mugs make great little gifts for grandparents or other doting relatives.

Cooking is another good way for kids to be creative and it can be a fantastic way for you to spend some quality time with them too! The Heart Frying Pan is a fun way to teach them the simple skill of frying a (heart-shaped) egg. Or why not make some Heart Shaped Pasta (this is a great gift to keep in mind for Valentines Day too)? If pasta’s not your thing, you could simply bake a cake with your kids. We have a Set of 4 Mixing Bowls with Lids in bold, bright colours that are sure to appeal to all little chefs out there.

Days Out
Kids love getting out and about, so organising a day trip is always a winner during the summer holidays. If the sun’s out, whip up a picnic and take a trip to the seaside. If it’s raining, you can always go swimming at your local pool and for a meal afterwards – you don’t always need the sun to have fun!

But if you’re looking for an extra special day out, we have a great range of activity days that you can book for the whole family – from a Diggerland Family Experience to a Camelot Theme Park Experience. A memorable day out is a fab way to celebrate a birthday or to simply spend some time having fun with your family.

Don’t forget to take a look at findmeagift.com for yet more ideas, toys, games and gifts to keep the kids happy and busy this summer.

Ding Dong Merrily On High With Romantic Christmas Gifts

Ding Dong Merrily on High With Romantic Christmas Gifts by John Smith

There are certain times of year that just give us that warm and cosy feeling. When it comes to romance, Christmas has to be the winner. Maybe it’s the thought of crackling log fires and the smell of mulled wine or even the sparkling lights of the Christmas Tree and a huge box of chocolates to hand. Whatever the reason, why not embrace the moment with a special Christmas gift for that one person who’s worth sharing it all with?

Getting Personal

Most people will admit to enjoying a little drink over the holidays and it’s possibly the only time of year we can have a house full of alcohol without feeling guilty. Bottles of champagne can make wonderful Christmas Gifts but why not celebrate Christmas in style with a unique bottle of personalised Champagne? You can create your own label on a genuine bottle of fizz and dedicate it to your favourite person with their name and a message of your choice. Make a similar gesture for friends and family with an engraved bottle of Personalised Christmas Wine or Personalised whiskey.

Dedication’s all you need

Or so the theme tune to a certain Record-Breaking programme led us to believe. But it doesn’t take a great deal of effort to show your loved one that you do actually remember the little things in life too. Almost all of us have a favourite track or a single redolent of a well-spent or indeed mis-spent youth. It is now possible to choose just about any UK Single from January 1992 to the present (or indeed obtain the vinyl version if the date precedes this) as Christmas Gifts. Once sourced, most offerings will be presented, along with your personal message and a polished aluminium plaque, in an attractive frame. If your loved one is utterly music-mad, you can even find them a personalised Replica Twelve Inch Gold Disc. If you are decide to go down this route, it makes sense to choose your partner’s favourite song, the track you first danced to, or maybe even the single that was number one when they were born. Few things are quite as personal as musical taste and a careful choice of such Christmas Gifts sends a very strong message. You’ve taken the time to get to know them. You’ve listened to them. They’re worth it.

A Winter Wonderland

Every Christmas marks the passage of time. Another year together. Some things achieved, others missed. Few of us realise all of our ambitions and life is, after all, about the journey. With that in mind, there is no harm at all in a little daydreaming. In fact it is now possible to give your nearest and dearest a very real dream: a day of indulging in the other loves of their life. From a Ferrari Thrill at Silverstone, to a less testosterone-filled golf lesson and round of golf, or perhaps a helicopter buzz flight; there are seemingly endless Gifts for indulging budding James Bonds or Nigel Mansells. For those of us with somewhat more sedentary partners, perhaps an experience day choice for her: a luxury experience at a health and beauty club, a haircut from a top stylist or a few hours wine tasting at a vineyard, may be a better choice. Once again, it is the degree of thought that will make or break the success of any Christmas Gifts. There are all sorts of treats to choose from and you won’t be reduced to presenting your loved one with an IOU scribbed on the back of a parking ticket on Christmas morning: today’s experience day gifts almost invariably come in the form of vouchers or cards, often in attractive presentation boxes.

The Ultimate Christmas Gifts

Sometimes it can be the little things in life that mean the most to others so don’t forget the stocking fillers either. A well-chosen pampering or grooming Christmas gift will generally be warmly received although be sure not to make it too practical: we all have imperfections and Christmas morning isn’t generally the best time at which to be reminded of them! Few people will object to a decent Christmas Wine and Luxury Chocolates Hamper. If it’s romance that you’re after then consider how you too might be able to share in this Christmas gift and spend some time together. You could always include the keys to a cottage for a January break inside the hamper. For the ultimate romantic gesture, why not give the one you love your last Rolo? Not just any Rolo of course, but a My Last Rolo Hallmarked gold or silver one that comes complete with a luxury presentation box.

Hide away for the holidays

If you’re planning on going abroad for the festive season (top marks for being romantic if that’s your partner’s main Christmas gift) or even if you’re already thinking about where to go for the summer; then surprise your loved one with a Bon Voyage Passport Cover or a First Class Luggage Tag. Not only can these add a touch of style to any luggage but they can act as a useful clue to any other surprises you may have planned!

All I want for Christmas

If you don’t always consider yourself to be the romantic type, or you’re really struggling for something more to say, then perhaps you could let this little Christmas gift say it all for you. The winner of the ‘Gift of the Year Award, 2007′: A Sun Jar: Sunshine in a Jar. Made with a traditional Mason Jar and energy efficient lighting, its lights shine brightly at night, using solar cell batteries that are charged during the day. Now you can quite literally add a little more sunshine to someone’s life! Ultimately, the festive season should be about togetherness, celebrating the year that has passed and sharing joint optimism of things to come in the year ahead. Christmas Gifts are not only an integral part of the season’s festivities but they are yet another opportunity for you to demonstrate insight, thoughtfulness and caring in their selection. They convey a great deal more about you than they do about the recipient!

Top Ten Reasons To Spend Christmas In Tenerife

Top Ten Reasons To Spend Christmas In Tenerife by Dev Aziz

Having splashed and sloshed our way through the wettest summer in living memory, many of us Brits are severely in need of a bit of light relief. Recent statistics reveal a desperate rush to leave the country over Christmas and head to the gloriously sunny climes of Tenerife. The statistics, from a survey by TravelRepublic, show a massive increase in winter sun holidays in general and Christmas holidays to Tenerife are the most popular of all.

There has been a drop in Tenerife holiday prices this season with many one-week package holidays to Tenerife coming in at under £300. Cheap holidays to Tenerife are clearly a big draw to those of us keen to escape the grim British weather, but could there be more to it than this? Christmas is getting bigger every year and the pressure to get it right is immense. A Tenerife Christmas can remove such hassles, and more. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of ten aspects of Christmas hell and how jetting off on a sunny holiday to Tenerife will turn them all around!

1) In the UK: Presents and shopping

Us Brits spend an average of £384 on 18 Christmas presents. Significantly more than you might be spending on your whole Tenerife holiday!

In Tenerife: Spanish souvenirs

It’s impossible to list all the Spanish souvenirs you could find for your loved ones, but here are five of the most popular items you could pick up whilst on holiday in Tenerife:

Abanico – hand held fans elaborately decorated or carved from wood make a great Tenerife Christmas present.
Football Souvenirs – items brandishing the Real Madrid crest or a miniature replica of the stadium are ideal gifts for footie fans!

Bullfighting Souvenirs – you can buy a representation of the three matadors or even a replica matador’s jacket.

Toro – these miniature Spanish bulls vary in quality from moulded plastic to elaborate pieces hand made in leather.

Art & Paintings – from the country that gave birth to Salvador Dali and Picasso there is a large selection of cheap scenes of everyday Spain.

2) In the UK: Enforced jollity

At Christmas there is no greater sin then appearing to be grumpy. Never mind if it’s raining again when it ought to be snowing. Never mind the awkward family tensions. If your mood isn’t up you’re in trouble - you’re ‘ruining Christmas’.

In Tenerife: Real jollity

Waking up to the bliss of no responsibilities and a day of sunbathing will put you in a naturally good mood, so there’s no need to fake it!

3) In the UK: Inappropriate outfits

Christmas seems to inspire the oddest outfits: fluorescent antlers, hair tinsel, ‘fun’ paper crowns, ridiculous knitted festively themed woolly jumpers – the list is endless and another example of that enforced jollity.

In Tenerife: A good tan

Developing a healthy glow on holiday in Tenerife will make you the envy of all your friends when the glitter of Christmas has died down to a dull fizzle and everyone’s feeling pale and miserable. Ha-ha!

4) In the UK: Guzzling excessive cheap alcohol

To get through the emotional rollercoaster of another family Christmas, many of us, despite our best intentions, will turn to the bottle to ease the pain. The following day’s hangover only makes it that much worse.

In Tenerife: Sipping cocktails by the pool

There are so many fabulous bars in Tenerife that you’ll be spoilt for choice, and there’s no need to overdo it when you’re already having so much fun!

5) In the UK: Office parties

You can already picture the scene: watching what you drink in case you say exactly what you think about your unbearable boss or colleague, whilst pretending not to be disgusted by the cringeworthy advances of the office letch. Finally, you end up dancing wildly with said letch in a mad drunken stupor. The Facebook photos won’t make it any easier to forget.

In Tenerife: Beach parties!

A beach party in Tenerife will really blow away the winter cobwebs. For daytime fun, the main beach of Playa de las Americas is where the party people go to recharge their batteries before the next clubland assault and when the sun goes down you can head to Enramada Beach near La Caleta, where Chiringuito Beach Club hosts parties at the weekend. Many revellers choose to camp on the beach at Las Galletas, bringing their own food and drinks and listening to music into the small hours. Christmas in Tenerife is such fun!

6) In the UK: Christmas lunch

First of all, whoever’s cooking is incredibly stressed, and claims you have no idea how much work there is to do (if you try and help then you’re inevitably doing it all wrong). This leads to petty arguments and numerous kitchen disasters. Meanwhile one member of the family has suddenly decided to become a vegan without telling anyone and refuses to eat a thing, glaring grumpily while everyone else tucks into their turkey.

In Tenerife: Tapas & fresh tropical fruit

Food in Tenerife is very tasty and a lot less stressful than Christmas dinner. Tapas are Spain’s appetizers, scrummy little dishes which are often flavoured with garlic, chillies or paprika, cumin, salt, pepper or saffron. It often comes with seafood such as anchovies, sardines or mackerel in olive oil with tomatoes and sometimes peppers or olives. On your Tenerife holiday you can also sample many delicious tropical fruits like mangoes, paw paw and ‘platanos fritos’ - fried bananas.

7) In the UK: Christmas television

Saccharine Coca Cola adverts, endless repeats of ‘Only Fools and Horses’, soap extravaganzas and ‘Celebrity’ Christmas specials.

In Tenerife: singles – Find a winter romance

For goodness sake, forget TV and get out there onto the lively Tenerife singles scene. If anything’s going to boost your sprits at Christmas it’s a sizzling holiday romance!

8) In the UK: Christmas number ones

Slade’s ‘So here it is Merry Christmas’, Band Aid’s ‘Do they know it’s Christmas’ and Aled Jones’ ‘Walking in the air’. Haven’t you heard them all enough?

In Tenerife: iPod

Forget the naffness - when you set off for your holiday in Tenerife you make sure you’ve got all your favourite tunes at your fingertips so you can sunbathe in peace.

9) In the UK: Carol singers

Expecting you to give them money for one chorus of ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ when half of them don’t know the words and the other half are miming.

In Tenerife: iPod

See above.

10) In the UK: Unrelentingly grim weather

Grrr. Grrr. Grrr.

In Tenerife: Sunshine

Mmm - what a relief!
