How to String Lights on a Christmas Tree

The Holiday season is the best time of year, decorating my home and the Christmas Tree. So how do you string lights on a Christmas Tree? On we go to the fine art of stringing Christmas Lights on our Trees….and yes, it can be considered an art. And to some a fine art.

Make sure that before you begin, to have everything you need on hand. This will eliminate not having something you need while you are the ladder. So we will begin with the ladder, make sure you have a sturdy step ladder or small ladder handy. You will need this while you are wrapping the upper branches, even with a small tree, being on a ladder makes stringing your lights much easier.

You will obviously need your lights, an extension cord if the socket is not close or a step on off/on switch cord, makes lighting your tree easier and some patience.

Would you be surprised to know that it is recommended that you start stringing your Christmas Tree lights at the bottom? We had always started at the top. Reason being…you can follow the electrical outlet with the string of lights and not have too much or too little left over from stringing from the top. Never thought of it that way before. You will also be able to start with the correct male/female connections, ever string lights and end up with two female ends?

When decorating your Christmas Tree, always start with the lights. The lights are first thing that should be put on before garland or ornaments. Before you start, make sure that the lights are in working order, nothing worse than putting the lights on the tree and half the strand is not working.

As you string your lights use a weaving motion one light under a branch and the next light over, under and over. Tuck the cord into the branches so the cord does not show.

Estimate your space as you work your lights into the branches, stagger and space your rows so that there are no bare spots or clumps of lights together. Be especially careful not to clump the lights together at the top of the tree. The top of the tree should be the showplace for your topper.

If you decide you need more lights on your Christmas Tree, use additional strands and repeat the process of weaving from the top of the tree to the bottom.

Not sure how many lights you need, a quick rule of thumb is to take the height of your tree and times by 10. For example, a six foot tree would approximately 60 feet…I know I go way overboard on the amount of lights on my tree but just can’t help it.

Now that you have finished stringing and are satisfied with the lights on your Christmas Tree, it is time to decorate your decorate your tree with ornaments, garland and whatever tickles your fancy….

Charles Dickens - “A Christmas Carol”

With it’s universal message of treating friends, employees, and family with respect and kindness, “A Christmas Carol” is one of the most well known holiday stories of all time. The entertaining story masterfully weaves the message of keeping the Christmas spirit alive all year with a readily identifiable lead character. That there are hundreds of movie and stage adaptations of this story only serve to bolster the reputation of the story as a holiday classic.

History

Charles Dickens wrote “A Christmas Carol” in 1843 and it soon became the most popular book of that holiday season. Dickens sold 6000 copies of the book by Christmas, and the book was such a success that eight adaptations for the stage were being created within two months of publication. To this day, the story is one of the most widely known and popular stories about the Christmas season. There are more than 200 film versions and a countless number of stage productions. You would be hard pressed to find anyone not familiar with this Dickens classic in some form or the other.

Ebeneezer Scrooge is the main character in “A Christmas Carol”. Scrooge was an old man with more money than he could possibly use, but he was a lonely miser who refused to share or spend any of his vast fortune. Scrooge gets visited by three spirits, Christmas past, present, and future, and after these visits he has a revelation. Scrooge comes to realize that spending money on charity and generosity leads to a much more fulfilling life than simply hoarding all his money. He learns that the true spirit of Christmas is following these principals, and by following them he can keep the Christmas spirit alive all year.

This story was written at a time when working conditions were unfair for the lower social classes, and impoverished children were a common sight. Dickens was always an advocate for the poor, and often made social and moral statements in his writing. “A Christmas Carol” is no exception, weaving a beautifully written and engrossing tale with a strong moral and social justice theme. The lessons of the story are as valid today as they were when the book was written in 1843.

There are many movie versions of this classic story, and this year is a great year to start or continue a family tradition of reading or watching this classic story, and don’t forget to read it as well. The younger children will like the Disney or Muppet’s versions, while the whole family can watch the classic movie starring George C. Scott. If you are in a humorous mood, then Scrooged starring Bill Murray, or A Christmas Carol (2009) with Jim Carrey might suit your mood. In any event this Charles Dickens story is a classic story guaranteed to entertain the whole family for many years to come.

Christmas Stress

I made a very obvious discovery this Christmas season; that no matter how much we try, say and attempt to create a stress free season, it seems to never simplify but gets worse with every passing year. I hear so many people say “this year I am going to do things different”, but to no avail. The stores fill more and more with potential gifts, cards and stocking stuffers. How did we lose our way, the true meaning of the birth of our lord and savior? I want to see if I can crack the code to making a Christmas different. It is too late this year to start seeing what good can be done this season, but we have a whole year to figure out what we can do differently. I can’t change how other people deal with this time of year, but I really want to examine how I can make a difference. I challenge you, the reader, to do the same.

What I want to take a look at is the gift giving we go crazy over. How many people do you know, including yourself, worry themselves into a frenzy finding “just the right gift” for every person they know, have ever known and the people they suspect might get them a gift? Why is it that we go into debt so we have to spend all year trying to pay it off, to get gifts for people who very likely do not need for anything? I have seen for as many years as I have been on this planet, the piles and piles of presents given in vain. Where do these gifts go? Don’t you ever wonder what will happen to all these gifts? I would be willing to bet that many of them end up in garages, junk drawers or at the next family yard sale. So this is how we lost the Christmas meaning, we have focused on things instead of the truly important things in life. Loving one another and putting Christ in the center. Add up the money you spend on all aspects of Christmas; from presents, cards, wrapping paper, trees, decorations and much more and I ask that you evaluate whether this is really where your money is needed. If, like me, you have decided that this is foolish to the extent it is currently. There is another way.

There are people in true need. Not far away in Africa, but right here in the land of the “American Dream”. The idea of a house with a white picket fence, a husband and wife and 3 kids is far from reality for so many Americans. Instead of piling our houses with knick- knacks and more gadgets than we could ever possibly enjoy, we have the chance to help those who can’t help themselves. Instead of spending ourselves blind on gifts, let us give to the homeless, hungry and sick. There are many reputable charities out there that strive to bless those in need. If Jesus were here on this Earth today, how would he spend his earnings? I believe he would serve others and help those in need, just as he did in his time. There is so many things that can distract us from what God intended us to do with our money, let us not forget the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Show your gratitude for what you have been blessed with by blessing others. Next year is a new opportunity, will you continue the cycle of materialism, or will you chose a new path…one of giving and love?

Christmas Loans - Enhancing Your Festive Spirit

Festive occasions are instances which every person likes to enjoy with his close and loved ones. But the cost of enjoying has rocketed sky-high in recent times. Be it throwing a grand bash on Christmas or going on vacation on the same occasion, ability of normal people to handle expenses for organising such events, has taken a severe beating.

In present times, managing expenses in a right way is becoming an arduous task for commoners. This is the reason why people these days, have developed a rather strange tendency to run away from the very term ‘loan.’, since loan for them directly implies ‘troubles’ in UK economy.

But such conditions are no longer to afraid of. Reason, Christmas loans is there at people service. X-mas loans are re-designed loan products (yes, they operate on the lines of ‘payday loans’) that extended to people who are looking out for a proper source to finance their parties, dream vacation & other associated expenses on the most awaited festive event of year.

As mentioned above, Christmas loans share a remarkable similarity with the concept of ‘payday loans’, reason, because it is a short term loan that guarantees to finance all kinds of occasional expenses incurred during such times.

Applying for X-Mas loan hardly takes more than 2 minutes or so, thanks to Internet. The loan aspirant needs to fill-in an Online application form. This form needs to be filled-in with accurate & authentic information since the data furnished by you, in later stages when your request gets processed, is verified by the concerned lending authorities.

As far as information is concerned, the applicant also needs to fill-in relevant & correct information about his or her employment status. As a matter of fact, loan amount in this product gets disbursed in no time. Moreover, if bad credit score or a poor credit history has been worrying you, no problem, several loan providers have been offering an exclusively designed Christmas loan product that caters to the demands of people with tarnished credit image.

However, people should be watchful of loan trends in the upcoming season. It is because there is high chance that some desperate lenders might bait innocent and unaware people in a booby trap via offering loan products at cheaper APRs or rather friendly-seeming terms and conditions. Hence prospective borrowers are advised to keep an eye on their lenders since there is every chance of circumstances taking an ugly turn for him/her (the borrower).

As far as repayment is concerned, it is important to mention here that APRs, at which these loans are offered are quite decent (better say ‘competitive’) whilst comparing with APRs on other loan products. Moreover, since this is one loan product that doesn’t require too much of legal hassles and documentation, makes it quite popular in masses. Coming back to repayment since lenders tend to treat each of their customers in a different way hence, the entire repayment schedule depends upon the customer itself. If he or she manages to convince lender or the authority then there exists a high chance that they might make an exception for you, by deciding a low installment amount or better giving you an extended time-period to repay your loan.

So if you are looking to make your upcoming ‘Christmas’, the most happiest one, Christmas Loans is the way to go about for it.
